Fundraising Dinner
A fundraising dinner was held at the RAF Club in London on Wednesday
10th June, hosted by Renfield
the Butler in
aid of Juvenile Diabetes
Research Foundation.
Despite
the transport for London strike, the evening was a sell-out with 105
people attending. The theme of the evening was flying with each table
being named after a famous airplane including their own anthem, exercises
to avoid deep vein thrombosis (dvt) and a game of heads & tails. However,
the main attraction of the evening was the auction which raised in excess
of £8,000+ (see supporters page) and the grand total is still going up...
Douglas gave 2 short speeches on diabetes and the effects it has on
us all, including your career limitations as well as his proposed Flight48.
Hannah Scott from JDRF also spoke about the research currently being
undertaken to try and find a cure.
We would like to thank everyone for their support, generosity and their
kind comments which include:
"It was a fabulous evening - have not laughed
as much in a long time and well done on such a healthy fundraising total!!!!!
- Renfield was an absolute hoot and made the evening really special"
"Thank
you all for a wonderful evening - you did a great job! The "Harriers" table
had a lot of fun and the headache 'winging' emails I received this morning
are proof of that :-)"
and "Great night last night, hopefully we
were well behaved!! We look forward to our invite next year!!"
The idea for the evening was born over dinner in January and therefore
we are all thrilled with the generosity, participation and fantastic
feedback we have received. We have already decided to organise another
one next year and will keep you posted with the date. We hope it will
be even bigger, better and more fun than this initial fund raising event.
